Troopathon-7 2014: Care Packages Bring Troops Love and Support from Back Home

Breitbart News announced that this year’s Troopathon-7 2014 will be will be broadcast live on Sirius XM Patriot Radio channel 125 on June 25 at 1 p.m. Pacific time from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley.

Troopathon has been going on for seven years and is an annual event promoted by Move America Forward (MAF), a non-profit charity dedicated to those who protect America: our spirited and courageous troops. This year’s co-host will be Stephen K. Bannon, Executive Chairman of Breitbart news Sunday.

Troopathon is a non-partisan, non-political effort that includes celebrities from Hollywood, television, the music industry, sports heroes and athletes, bloggers, journalists, radio personalities, academics, experts in the field, and elected officials to bring together a wide variety of guests to support our troops. Last year Troopathon raised over $400,000 in donations for our troops and this year’s goal is to surpass that mark. Overall, Troopathon has raised over $4.5 million in care packages and sent over 315 tons of gifts for our troops.

Breitbart News and Move America Forward are kicking off the donation drive now, and anyone who wants to contribute to help our soldiers in Afghanistan or Korea or wherever they may be can send a care package to a U.S. military serviceman or woman. The packages go directly to battlegrounds and to our troops on the front line.

Each care package contains much-needed food and personal care items like coffee, cookies, Gatorade, beef jerky, deodorant, wet wipes, and more. Donations for the care packages start at $24.99 and include your personal message of support printed on a letter in each box.

On Sunday, Bannon pointed out on Breitbart News Sunday that we still have some 30,000 combat troops in Afghanistan. He reminded all of his listeners that “every day there are engagements, and every day there is combat, and our troops are put under tremendous pressure.” Bannon explained that it is a wonderful morale booster for them to receive these care packages, “and it will bring a lot of sunlight to what otherwise may be a rather gloomy day.”

Scott Raab, MAF outreach director and Navy veteran, said it well: “It’s a perfect message of love and support from back home.” Raab says that the most important part of why you should send a care package to the troops is “it comes with a personal message from you to a soldier and some will carry it around with them for their 4th, 5th or 6th tour and keep them when they come home.”

Some of this year’s guests will be Jedidiah Bila, television and radio host, Fox News contributor, and columnist; Debbie Lee, MAF spokesperson and mother of Marc Allan Lee, the first Navy Seal killed in Iraq; John McCaslin, Troopathon co-host, radio personality, journalist and author; Rita Cosby, television news anchor and correspondent, radio host, and best-selling author who is hosting the national Memorial day parade in DC; and Lacey Castlebury, who spent a lot of time in Iraq and Afghanistan distributing MAF care packages to troops.

Pope Francis Should Not Have Prayed at Bethlehem Wall

No one can deny that Pope Francis is a man who walks the walk. While many disagree with his neo-socialist world-view, who can feel anything but respect for a world leader who eschews the perks of office to champion the poor and the oppressed?

The Pope is also courageously confronting the Church’s obsession with abortion, gay marriage, and contraception in favor of spiritual values that directly address the materialism, narcissism, and rot of the modern world.
But there is one area where the Pope must do more. And that’s in his confrontation with evil.

Over the past few days we’ve heard the Pope repeatedly invoke the need for Middle East peace. We have seen him walk a tightrope of neutrality between Israel and the Palestinians. But as the world’s foremost religious voice, can he afford to be silent in the face of a grotesque moral affront?

When the Pope prays at an Israeli security barrier in front of graffiti that compares Bethlehem to the Warsaw Ghetto, he has taken neutrality to an extreme and risks being party to trivializing the Holocaust.
This past January I visited the remnants of the Warsaw Ghetto in the deep and freezing snow of Poland’s winter. It traumatized me to the bone. I found approximately five portions of the Ghetto wall, Yanusz Korchak’s original orphanage, the last remaining Synagogue, and the square from which the 300,00 Jews were deported from the ghetto to their deaths in Treblinka. Not that they weren’t already the living dead.

The photo and film archive of Emanuel Ringelblum, at the former site of the Grand Synagogue’s Library, is shocking beyond words. The discarded bodies that dotted the streets of the ghetto are haunting enough. But even worse is the footage of small children, clad in the dead of winter in nothing but rags, walking alone and barefoot and begging for bread.

It is something that sears the soul and has the viewer asking how God could have allowed such unspeakable suffering. I was covered in many layers and was still shivering. I have no idea how these children survived for even a day.

I also visited the mass grave at Mila 18, headquarters of the armed Jewish resistance of April-May 1943, known to us today as the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. There I was nearly knee-deep in snow, the only visitor in perhaps days, making fresh prints by the monument to the great Mordechai Anielewicz, who headed the uprising and, surrounded by the Nazis who were about to storm the position, took his own life along with other leaders of the revolt.

To compare the annihilation of the 300,000 Jews of the Warsaw Ghetto to a security fence erected by Israel so that more Jews aren’t gruesomely murdered takes a particular kind of propaganda effort, one that has contempt for human life, one that is indifferent to evil. Surely the Pope cannot agree with the appalling, disgusting, and vile assertion that Bethlehem is a holding pen for Palestinians awaiting Israeli slaughter. So why would the Pope have prayed there?

Pope Francis just canonized John XXIII and John Paul II, both courageous friends of world Jewry. He pointedly, and to his credit, did not canonize Pope Pius XII, the man universally derided as “Hitler’s Pope.”

Evil ensues when nobody speaks against it and genocides take place when people are silent. This was the great sin of Pope Pius, a man whose refusal to use this global standing to denounce Hitler and a mysterious insistence on remaining above the fray in the great battle of light versus darkness, bespoke a broken moral compass.

Hitler famously said at the start of the Holocaust, in 1939, “Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?” He banked on moral voices remaining silent in the face of Jewish European mass murder. Eugenio Pacelli, who became Pope that same year, obliged him by never once objecting to the destruction of European Jewry and lives, therefore, in moral infamy till this day.

Pius XII was famous for making benign pronouncements during the war that carefully preserved his moral neutrality. “Nothing is lost with peace; all can be lost with war. Let men return to mutual understanding! Let them begin negotiations anew, conferring with good will and with respect for reciprocal rights… Christ made love the heart of his religion.” These empty platitudes were utterly useless in preserving peace because they refused to lay the blame for the war firmly at Nazi aggression.

Even after Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939, and began what would be six years of global conflict and mass slaughter, Pius avoided words of condemnation of any party. For the Pope, the allies and the Nazis were equally culpable.

The most the Pope Pius ever said that even approached a condemnation of the annihilation of the Jews was in a Christmas message of 1942 where he spoke of “those hundreds of thousands who, without any fault on their part, sometimes only because of their nationality or race, have been consigned to death or to a slow decline.” Incredibly, he never once said he was referring to the Jews.

Pope Francis, who is a global inspiration and a great light of the Church, must learn from the poor example of his predecessor not be vague when it comes to mass murder. Platitudes about Middle East peace that refuse to condemn Hamas terrorism or its genocidal charter against the Jews risks compromising the great Pope’s moral standing.

A security fence built solely to protect innocent Israelis from being dismembered dare not be compared to a fence designed to cage Jews prior to their gassing.
The Pope can surely find a different place to pray.

Ben Carson on Progressive Tolerance: ‘Only Works in One Direction’

Dr. Ben Carson has had enough with the double standard in academia and the media when it comes to tolerating the difference of opinions.

Appearing on Breitbart News Sunday on Sirius XM Patriot channel 125 with Breitbart News Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon, Carson blasted progressives who want to tear down those whose views are not in line with liberal orthodoxy and politically correct.

“They want to destroy your business. They want to destroy your character. They want to get rid of you,” Carson said. “Whatever happened to tolerance? It seems like it only works in one direction.”

Carson himself was targeted by the thought police in 2013 when the White House demanded that he apologize to President Barack Obama after his speech at the National Prayer Breakfast in 2013.

Carson blasted college campuses and liberals for pitting one group against another and cultivating what he said was a liberal intolerance of differing views.

“War on women. Age wars. Race wars. Gender wars. Income wars,” Carson said. “This is destructive. It is right out of the playbook of Saul Alinsky.”

Carson also reiterated that the “VA mess is a blessing because it shows us what happens with the gigantic bureaucracy” and “when everyone’s healthcare is under the auspices of government bureaucrats.” Liberals tried to twist his remarks to allege Carson was celebrating the scandal in Obama’s VA in which at least 40 veterans died after being placed on secret waiting lists, and Carson said only “stupid people” would believe such spin.

Carson, who has just published his new book, One Nation: What We Can All Do to Save America’s Futurespoke movingly about his mother who grew up in rural Tennessee with a third-grade education and eventually helped turn Carson’s life around.

Carson’s mother worked three jobs from dawn to midnight but still forced him to do book reports even though she did not know how to read. After Carson started to love books and could not put them down, he went from the bottom of his classes to the top of them. Carson decided that he was the captain of his own ship while growing up in impoverished Detroit, and he would eventually become one of the top neurosurgeons in the world, pioneering numerous groundbreaking surgeries and treatments. He credited his mother’s attitude and self-reliance for much of his success.

“She would never be a victim,” Carson said of his mother. “She just hated the thought of being on welfare. She saw people who got on welfare and never came off of it.”

Carson, who has just published his new book, One Nation: What We Can All Do to Save America’s Future, spoke about his mother who grew up in rural Tennessee with a third-grade generation.

UKIP: why these election results matter – and why the political class will tell you they don’t

A quip which has been doing the rounds on Twitter the last few days concerns the official projection of how many seats UKIP stands to win in Westminster next year, based on its stellar performance in the local and European elections.

The answer is a big fat zero.

No doubt it’s a figure which will afford enormous comfort to the mainstream political class and their many friends in the mainstream media this morning as they strive to explain in various different clever ways why it is that last night’s seismic election results across Europe mean nothing whatsoever.

In one way they are quite right: the European parliament is a fake parliament, none of whose elected members have any say on any issue that matters. (All the important decisions are taken by the unelected European Commission).

But in another way they couldn’t be more wrong. The elections of the last few days mark the beginning of a revolution which will completely transform the face of politics across Europe and which will inevitably lead to the destruction of the European Union.

And this is mostly very good news, by the way, despite what you’ll read on Twitter, hear on the BBC or read in the newspapers or get told by politicians. Sure they’ll pay tribute – through gritted teeth – to the remarkable success of UKIP and Nigel Farage. But they’ll also seek to distract from it by drawing attention to the victory of “far right” parties like Marine Le Pen’s Front National in France and the growth of the fascistic Golden Dawn in Greece, a) in an attempt to sully UKIP with the racist tag by association and b) to create the impression that far from being something we should celebrate, these election results represent a flight from commonsense, decency and stability. “If you’re going to indulge yourself with protest votes,” the message will run, “Prepare to reap the tempest.”

But in truth this tempest is entirely of the political class’s making. If the mainstream politicians had done an even half way decent job of actually representing the interests of the people they supposedly serve, there’d be no call for all these protest votes, would there?

What these election results symbolise is the depth of disgust felt across Britain and through continental Europe at the remoteness, incompetence, complacency and dispiriting saminess of the political class (and its amen corner in the mainstream media, in the corporations, in the bureaucracy and the judiciary).

In Britain – until the arrival of UKIP forced them to sharpen up their act – there has been so little discernible difference between the three main parties they might just as well have renamed themselves LibLabCon. As for the European Union, it was never even designed to be democratically accountable, so it was always inevitable that one day its bluff would be called.

What are these election results are, above all, is a massive two fingers flicked by the people of Europe against the political masters who – if there were any justice – should be their political servants.

NUHO Offers Unique Film Festival Experience to the Masses

Five words or less(NewsUSA) – From Sundance to Palm Springs to Cannes, film buffs ogle at these cinematic fetes but typically can only dream of parading among the who’s who of Hollywood. Now, however, a new indie distribution company is making it easier — and less expensive — to attend a film festival by hosting it online. NUHO Online Film Festival is the brainchild of New Hollywood Entertainment CEO Keith Mitchell and Ivy League entrepreneur Chris Kanik, and was born out of what Mitchell describes as an “inherent problem with quality independent films making it into the movie theaters.” “The festival business is a necessary spoke in the wheel of film distribution,” says Kanik. “However when the festival benefits the hosts more than the filmmakers, that’s wrong. We offer filmmakers a friendly site where everybody succeeds.” What makes NUHO different from other film festivals is that independent filmmakers gain from profit sharing, have exposure to a worldwide audience, and contact with agents, distributors and other industry professionals — all without having to incur travel, hotel or marketing costs. “We are offering everything other film festivals offer — where you watch films, stream live events, attend panel discussions and meet other filmmakers — the only thing we can’t provide is a cocktail,” jokes Mitchell. The idea, he says, was to make NUHO similar yet different from other film fests by keeping it at a fraction of the cost, and allowing guests to attend from their homes. To that end, participants can watch any film for $1.99 (per film) or buy an all access pass for all 21 films for $14.99. The all access pass allows guests to join in panel discussions with working industry professionals who will be talking about screenwriting, filmmaking and distribution. In addition, NUHO has an online lounge to meet other attendees, and an industry tab where other distribution and acquisition reps can watch the content and make deals. “What we’re doing is probably as crazy as when [Robert] Redford was telling people he wanted to start a film festival in the mountains of Utah,” says Mitchell. NUHO’s state-of-the-art technology ensures the filmmakers that there are no piracy issues. The online film festival, which will kick off its festivities with a keynote speech by Spike Lee, runs throughout February, and covers all genres of film, including narrative features, documentaries, shorts and web series.
