CA Lawmakers Fight ‘Hate’ by Banning State Sale, Display of Confederate Flag

On August 21 the California State Assembly voted 66-1 to pass AB 2444, banning the state from selling Confederate flags or displaying them.

An exemption would exist for “the flag’s use in school textbooks, public museums and other educational settings.”

According to The Huffington Post, AB 2444 was sponsored by Assemblyman Isadore Hall III (D-Compton). Hall said, “No Californian should be exposed to the kind of hate or threat of violence caused by the display of the Confederate flag.”

Hall says his bill “respects Constitutional protections” inasmuch as it restricts “government speech, not individual speech.” He said the bill also sends “a strong message that California and its taxpayers will not be in the business of promoting racism, exclusion, oppression or violence toward others.”

In July, CA Governor Jerry Brown (D) “had all Confederate Flag materials swiftly removed from the California State Fair” after Hall complained about their “increased presence.”

AB 2444 now goes to Brown to be signed.

Exclusive: Rod Blum Blasts IA Dem Pat Murphy for Saying Illegals Will Become Terrorists if Not Given Amnesty

Republican Rod Blum, a businessman who is running to represent Iowa’s First Congressional District, challenged his opponent, Democrat Pat Murphy, to explain why he thinks illegal immigrant juveniles from Central America will become terrorists if they are not granted citizenship.

“Obviously Pat Murphy’s comments are extremely offensive. How could anyone reasonably compare these children to terrorists? And what does that have to do with granting amnesty?” Blum exclusively told Breitbart News on Friday. “Comments like this are completely out of touch, and do not reflect mainstream, common sense American views. I hope that Pat Murphy explains his radical statement to the voters here in Eastern Iowa.”

This week, as ISIS released a heinous video of the beheading of U.S. photojournalist James Foley, Murphy said that illegal immigrant juveniles who have been flooding across the border from Central America will be like Middle Eastern terrorists in a generation if they do not get amnesty.

“If they’re gonna be refugees, which, some, several of them are going to be, we need to make sure that we have—one, we take care of them, and we create a pathway for citizenship and set up education for them so they don’t become the same problem that we’re currently having in the Middle East—that they’ll be terrorists a generation from now,” Murphy told Iowa Public Radio on Tuesday. Murphy also said the illegal immigrant juveniles, nearly 90% of whom are teenagers, should be treated “like they’re our children or our grandchildren.”

Murphy has been consistent in his pro-amnesty advocacy. In May, Murphy told Iowa Public Radio that there are “13 million undocumented Americans here,” and they should be given a pathway to citizenship in exchange for community service.

On his Friday radio program, Rush Limbaugh said Murphy’s comments are “certifiable proof” that some Democrats from Iowa “are insane.” Limbaugh said Murphy’s remarks are also reflective of the low regard with which Murphy holds his district’s voters.

“I don’t know who it’s an insult to,” Limbaugh said. “Yes, it’s an insult to the children, but you talk about what must this guy think of the voters in Iowa who he wants to elect him. How stupid does he think they are?”

Blum and Murphy, who has touted himself as a “bold progressive” and a “liberal’s liberal,” are in a tight contest to replace Rep. Bruce Braley (D-IA), who gave up his House seat to run for Senate against Joni Ernst.

Nashua Telegraph Carrying Shaheen’s Water on Outsourcing?

A series of emails shared exclusively with Breitbart News by sources within the Scott Brown campaign and the curious timing of a coming Nashua Telegraph story may cause some to wonder if Democrat Jeanne Shaheen isn’t outsourcing her campaign’s opposition research function to the Nashua Telegraph newspaper.

On the very same day most everyone is acknowledging the big story out of New Hampshire is that Scott Brown has turned what was a double-digit gap with Jeanne Shaheen into a virtual dead heat, Managing editor for content at The Telegraph and Editor of PolitiFact NH Jonathan Van Fleet opted to share this not yet bit of news via his Twitter feed.

It seems worth noting that most publications are reluctant to tip off their competition to the stories they’re about to break. Furthermore, this one seems tailor made to say, not so fast, on the very day the headlines have Brown pulling even with Shaheen.

Additionally, the journalist in question, Kevin Landrigan, is no longer even employed by the Telegraph. According to news reports, he was laid off on the 12th of August. So, why is this apparent non-story that wasn’t published two weeks ago suddenly going to be one of the Nashua Telegraph’s Sunday’s finest?

Longtime Concord reporter Kevin Landrigan laid off by Nashua Telegraph Newspaper decides to shut its State House Bureau

The emails obtained by Breitbart News would appear to indicate the journalist in question had little to no interest in hearing about Jeanne Shaheen’s hypocrisy as regards outsourcing, nor is it clear he was interested in the Brown campaign’s response to his questions.

got this thanks

already been through her record in senate and all I’ve seen is doctrinaire ie support for partisan, senate dem moves to close offshore tax loopholes etc.  if you’ve seen anything different that slipped through my sieve, i’m all ears.

What Kevin  Landrigan ‘got’ was this detail on Jeanne Shaheen’s own outsourcing problems, as well as a detailed response regarding the Brown-linked company, Kadant. How much, if any, of these exchanges makes it into the Telegraph’s non-story remains to be seen. Neither Kevin Landrigan, nor editor Jonathan Van Fleet responded to Breitbart News’ request for comment on the curious timing of both Van Fleet’s Tweet and presumed publication of now ex-Telegraph reporter Kevin Landrigan’s story.

While Shaheen Was Governor, A Portion Of New Hampshire’s Food Stamp Program Was Outsourced To India

In The “Late 1990’s” New Hampshire And Six Other States Entered Into A Contract With Citibank To Administer Their Food Stamp Programs.  “In the late 1990’s seven Northeastern states brokered a deal designed to modernize their outdated and expensive food stamp systems. But the agreement ended up with some of the work being shipped to India. … The six New England states and New York signed a contract with Citibank that let the company administer a new food stamp program in which beneficiaries buy food with a debit card.” (Tim McCahill, “States Respond To Outsourced Jobs,” The Associated Press, 3/24/04)

·      Shaheen Became Governor In 1997. (Congressional Quarterly, Accessed 3/31/14)

In 2004, It Was Disclosed Some Of The Work Had Been Subcontracted To A Firm In India.  “Citibank subcontracted some of the telephone work to a Wisconsin company, which later contracted with an Indian firm. Officials in some of the states said they were aware that work was being performed outside the country, but others said they were not.” (Tim McCahill, “States Respond To Outsourced Jobs,” The Associated Press, 3/24/04)

A New Hampshire Official Confirmed The State Had Known Since 2001. “Scott Kosowicz, who oversees the debit card program for New Hampshire, said the state has known Citibank was outsourcing the jobs since December 2001. He said the state monitors the calls monthly to ensure participants in the program are getting the help they need.” (Tim McCahill, “States Respond To Outsourced Jobs,” The Associated Press, 3/24/04)

Below is another exchange between Landrigan and the Brown campaign involving a detailed response from Kadant. For now, it remains unclear how much of this will make it into the Telegraph’s story given the lack of a response to a request for comment. It’s best read as a series of questions and responses in an exchange between journalist Landrigan and Kadant Executive Vice President and CFO Thomas M. O’Brien.

Subject: Kadant Inc. Responses to Questions

The Scott Brown Campaign sent us some questions from you.  We’ve done our best to answer those below.  Please email me if you have any further questions.

Q: The company said in its most recent annual report that it utilizes low cost manufacturing bases in China and Mexico to improve its internal growth.

Response:   Kadant is a global company with 1,800 employees and manufacturing operations in 17 countries.  We use these manufacturing locations to increase our  competitiveness and position ourselves closer to our customer base.  By becoming more globally competitive Kadant, has been able grow its US business and increase  its US work force particularly for high  paying jobs like engineering and R&D as well as more sophisticated manufacturing. Kadant’s   US employment has increased 30% in the last five years to just under 500 people

Q: Kadant has been outsourcing jobs since at least 2001. In 2006 the company even shipped jobs in its “home” state of Massachusetts to Mexico.

Response: Ten years ago we had a hard time winning capital orders for our  doctoring systems which were manufactured in Massachusetts. By moving some of the manufacturing to Mexico, we became more competitive, won more orders, and increased our spare parts and consumables products are also made in Massachusetts . Partly as a result of this, our  Massachusetts employment is the highest it’s been in 10 years.

Q: In 2005, Kadant’s CEO explained that it was closing a manufacturing facility in Alabama because a reduction in North American manufacturing was “necessary as [they] shift toward lower cost regions such as China.”

Response : We did not close our facility in Alabama .

Q: In 2007, Kadant’s CEO said that the company’s moving more of its “sourcing” to China provided a “nice margin opportunity.”

Response: It is true that we  expanded  certain manufacturing in  China, mainly  to  serve the China domestic market, but also to help the our  global competitiveness. The vast majority of the products made in China are sold to customers in China.  Much of the engineering for systems sold in China is done in the US and those are high quality high paying jobs.

Q: In 2013, Kadant purchased a manufacturing company in Vancouver, BC that it planned to outsource operations for to China in order to increase margins.

Response: Kadant did purchase a company in Vancouver and does plan to build small portion of that company’s products in China in an effort to capture more of the China market as well as provide lower input costs   In April of this year, partly because some of the product could be made in China, the company won two large systems for customers in China. The vast majority of that work will be done in BC .  No jobs have been lost at the company in BC since it was acquired by Kadant last year. In fact employment in the company in  BC has increased 10% since Kadant acquired the business last year .

Q: In its 2013 annual report, Kadant stated that it reinvested earnings from its international subsidiaries indefinitely as a means to avoid paying U.S. income taxes. The company said it did not pay taxes on nearly $150 million in foreign income.

Response: Kadant , like many other global companies has operating business  all over the world and pays taxes on the income it makes in those jurisdictions. So it’s not correct to say we did not pay taxes on $150 million in foreign income.  We do pay taxes in the jurisdictions where the income is earned.  The US is one of the only counties in the world to seek to collect tax on income earned in other countries. In addition it has one of the highest tax rates in the world.  The rules in the US are that income generated in those other countries is not taxed until the cash comes back to the US.  It’s not surprising that Kadant, like other global companies, does not bring cash back to the US unless we really need it.

Kadant does pay US taxes and has a 32% global tax rate.

Obama’s JV Performance Has Damaged Global Security and Cost Lives

After finally choosing to view the barbaric, on-camera beheading of freelance war correspondent James Foley, I’ve been left with a level of rage known only to those of us who have sacrificed unspeakable offerings on the altar of world peace.

My offering was my only son—Aaron Carson Vaughn. Aaron was a member of SEAL Team VI. He was killed in action when a CH47D Chinook, carrying thirty Americans and eight Afghans was shot down in the Tangi River Valley of Afghanistan on August 6, 2011.

Many times over the past three years, I’ve been asked what drove my son to choose his particular career. What made him want to be a Navy SEAL? My answer is simple.

Aaron Vaughn was a man who possessed the courage to acknowledge evil. And evil, once truly acknowledged, demands response. Perhaps this is why so few are willing to look it in the eye. It is much simpler—much safer—to look the other way.

Unless you happen to be the leader of the free world.

As Commander-in-Chief, your actions—or lack thereof—Mr. President, cost lives. As you bumble about in your golf cart, slapping on the happy face and fist-pounding your buddies, your cowardly lack of leadership has left a gaping hole, not only in America’s security, but the security of the entire globe. Your message has come across loud and clear, sir. You are not up to this job. You know it. We know it. The world knows it.

Please vacate the people’s house and allow a man or woman of courage and substance to seize the reigns of this out-of-control thug-fest and regain the balance we, America, have provided throughout our great history.

Thanks to your “leadership” from whatever multi-million dollar vacation you happen to be on at any given moment, the world is in chaos. What’s been gained, you’ve lost. What’s been lost, you’ve decimated. You’ve demolished our ability to hold the trust of allies. You’ve made a mockery of the title “President.” And you’ve betrayed the nation for which my son and over 1.3 million others have sacrificed their very lives. But it should come as no surprise, since our first glimpse of your wife as first lady came hand-in-hand with her unimaginably vile statement, “For the first time in my adult lifetime, I’m really proud of my country.” I’m sure my deceased son thanks you for that, Mrs. Obama. Oh, and you’re welcome.

Never in my lifetime have I witnessed such hopeless despair and such growing fear that the last best hope has finally been dismantled. Perhaps the better word is transformed—fundamentally transformed. Come to think of it, it’s become difficult—if not impossible—to believe things haven’t gone exactly as you planned, Mr. President.

Amazingly, in five short years, your administration has overseen Fast & Furious, the Fort Hood Massacre, the Catch and Release Program, and the sequester—which included barricading monuments of our nation’s true heroes (just for kicks, I suppose).

You’ve overseen the socialization of the banking, automobile, and healthcare industries, and the ambitious rush to end the wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan—with no plan on how to do so effectively.

The release of sixty-five American-blood-stained terrorists in Afghanistan and the release of “the Taliban five” in exchange for one American—without consulting Congress—are also on your shoulders.

You have been at the helm during unprecedented national security leaks—including, but not limited to the outing of SEAL Team VI on the Bin laden raid, the outing of the Pakistani doctor who provided the intelligence for that raid, the outing of Afghanistan’s CIA station chief, and the outing of your personal “kill list” to make you look tough.

In addition, you’ve overseen the NSA scandal, the IRS scandal, the VA scandal, and Benghazi.

Your leadership oversaw 75% of the U.S. deaths in Afghanistan and 83% of the U.S. Wounded in Action

And now, we have this: the beheading of an American citizen by a barbaric organization you foolishly referred to as “the JV team.” You, sir, are the JV team. It’s time for you to step down and allow a true leader to restore our honor and protect our sons and daughters.

America has always been exceptional. And she will be again. You, Mr. President, are a bump in our road.

Breastfeeding Moms Stage ‘Nurse-in’ at Beverly Hills Store

Nursing mothers occupied the chairs inside, and lined the street outside, of the Anthropologie store in Beverly Hills, staging a nurse-in to protest what they perceived as the mistreatment of a fellow mommy who was asked to finish breastfeeding her infant off of the sales floor.

“When I heard what happened, I was just really outraged. I couldn’t even believe it,” said protesting mother Dr. Catherine Begovic, her toddler daughter in hand, as she spoke with a reporter from the local CBS affiliate in Los Angeles.

The nurse-in was sparked after social media was set ablaze with complaints from women and mommies who expressed that they were appalled by what Ingrid Wiese-Hesson posted on Facebook that she had experienced at the Anthropologie store on South Beverly Drive.

“I thought that I was being discrete but within a couple of moments I was approached by someone who identified herself as the store manager and she said “‘I’m here to escort you to the ladies room so that you can finish breastfeeding,'” Wiese-Hesson said notes CBS.

She said she had to finish nursing on a toilet in the Anthropologie store’s bathroom. “She [the manager] opened up the bathroom and she said, ‘sorry there’s no chair.’ And of course, the only thing in the bathroom is the toilet seat.”

Wiese-Hesson made it a point to note that while the manager did not find the breastfeeding to be offensive, she asked Wiesen-Hesson to complete feeding the baby in the ladies room because “she felt that there might be other cultures present that would,” find the move offensive according to KTLA.

Some shoppers reportedly did not agree with the stage-in. One woman said “it’s offensive.” She noted that while “being naked is natural,” that she thinks the nursing women “should go somewhere private to breastfeed.”

Anthropologie’s general manager reportedly called Wiese-Hesson Thursday morning to apologize for the incident. The store issued an apology and statement as well. A copy of there statement posted on Facebook can be found by clicking here.

Under Section 43.3 of California law, “a mother may breastfeed her child in any location, public or private, except the private home or residence of another, where the mother and the child are otherwise authorized to be present.” In other words, businesses are not permitted to prohibit women from breastfeeding or to relegate them to a restroom, notes CBS.

“This is nature’s bottle right here,” stated one nursing mom, in reference to her breasts. Another protesting mommy held up a hot pink sign which read “These breasts were made for nursing, and that’s just what they’ll do.”

Ironically, August is breastfeeding awareness month.
