Vitter: Educating Unaccompanied Illegal Immigrant Minors to Cost Lousiana Nearly $7 Million

It will cost Louisiana nearly $7 million to educate the estimated 1,652 unaccompanied illegal immigrant minors released to sponsors in the state, Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) revealed Tuesday.

“This rapid influx puts an additional burden on teachers who will be expected to accommodate non-English speaking students. That’s not fair to the teachers and not fair to the students in the classroom,” Vitter said in a statement Tuesday.

In response to an inquiry from Vitter, the Louisiana Department of Education provided the number of unaccompanied illegal immigrant minors relocated to parishes in the state and the estimated cost to educate the students in public schools, as required by the federal government.

Vitter’s office notes that the $6,973,777 total is likely an underestimate, as not all the Louisiana parishes were able to provide a cost estimate.

From January 1 to August 31, more than 43,400 unaccompanied illegal immigrant minors have been placed with sponsors throughout the United States.

The federal government pins the number of unaccompanied illegal immigrant minors relocated to Louisiana at 1,414 – slightly less than the estimate from the Louisiana Department of Education.

Many of the relocated illegal immigrant minors are from Central America and part of the large wave of illegal immigration this year.

According to Vitter’s office, the state’s parishes have had to hire dozens of new teachers to deal with the influx, specifically English as a Second Language (ESL), special education, and bilingual teachers.

“President Obama’s failure to enforce basic immigration laws is now causing a huge financial burden for Louisiana,” Vitter said.

University of New Mexico Criticized for ‘Sex Week’ Sexual Assault Prevention Plan

University of New Mexico (UNM) is facing sharp criticism for its plan to prevent sexual assault on campus with a week of titillating sex seminars.

Rather than focus on teaching students how to avoid sexual assaults, UNM has taken the tack of teaching students how to have safer and better sex.

According to KOB4, seminars during Sex Week include “How to be a Gentleman AND Get Laid,” “Todo Sobre Orgasmos,” “Sexy Mamas,” “Reid’s Negotiating Successful Threesomes,” “O-Face Oral,” and “BJs and Beyond with Reid.”

During the seminars, sex educators will be on hand with PowerPoint and puppet demonstrations to teach students how to have consensual, safe sex.

“I’m here to give you tools and tips and tricks so you can be a more powerful you and have a better more fulfilling life,” said Reid Mihalko in his lecture, titled “How to be a Gentleman AND Get Laid,” according to

“The whole thing here is really about empowering yourselves to be able to make better choices and to not be so afraid and scared and feel so ashamed about sexuality,” Mihalko told the crowd of students.

UNM’s Women’s Resource Center said the lectures aim to teach students about healthy relationships to counter sexual violence on campus.

However, on its Facebook page, Students for Life UNM said, “We cannot believe that UNM is hosting an event like this! We have already sent a letter to the Dean and the President expressing our concern, and we encourage you to do the same.”

“It’s outrageous that UNM is promoting this kind of activity on campus – especially as a publicly-funded university,” Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America, told Breitbart News. “I doubt parents paying tuition for their kids, and taxpayers footing the bill, want students to learn about ‘how to navigate a successful threesome’ when they should be studying.”

“How about promoting self-control and respect among students instead, UNM?” Hawkins added.

Expert: US Often Has ‘Zero Capability’ of Determining if Legal Immigrants Are National Security Threat

During Monday’s National Security Action Summit, NumbersUSA’s Rosemary Jenks, one of the nation’s foremost immigration experts, said America must better screen legal immigrants to avoid another terrorist attack.

Jenks pointed out that just this year alone, there have been “474 so-called special-interest aliens from country’s linked to terrorism” such as Syria, Iran, Iraq, and Yemen. Jenks asked how a poor person from Yemen would have the funds to come to America.

“Where do you get the money to travel to Mexico and hire a smuggler to bring you into the United States illegally?” she asked before saying it is “pretty clear there is a terrorist finance outfit behind you.”

She said too few people, though, are asking why illegal immigrants from the Middle East would go through all that trouble to sneak across the porous U.S.-Mexico border “when we will let you in with all the documents you need to remain here and plan your attack on the United States.”

Jenks pointed out that the “Blind Sheikh,” who was the mastermind behind the first Trade Center attacks in 1993, came to the country on a tourist visa, even though he was on a watch list, and then subsequently applied for asylum. She stated that another bomber who worked with the “Blind Sheikh (Omar Abdel-Rahman)” was granted amnesty as an agriculture worker, though he was a cab driver in New York. Jenks mentioned that some of the 9/11 terrorists came in on tourist and student visas, while numerous other terrorists–like bomb makers from al-Qaeda in Iraq who were caught in Kentucky–won a visa lottery.

She also noted that a man who recently was arrested for allegedly plotting to crash drone-like devices into universities came to the country on a student visa and then applied for asylum under dubious circumstances.

As Breitbart News reported, during a previous stint in jail, El Mehdi Semlali Fahti, “who entered the United States legally on a student visa,” went to the prison library and “obtained the State Department’s country reports for Morocco from 1999 to 2011.” Then, to apply for asylum, he fabricated his life’s story to make it consistent with events in Morocco during that time period.

Jenks asserted these dangerous individuals were able to sneak in because the government’s background checks consist of only checking U.S. criminal databases and a terror watch list. In other words, if a terrorist has not committed a crime in the United States and isn’t high-profile enough to be on a watch list, “we have zero capability of determining if that person is a national security threat,” Jenks said.

She noted the country does not even check the criminal history in the “alien’s home country” and mentioned that the U.S. will reportedly be resettling 7,500 Syrian refugees, many of whom she said may have family members who are fighting with ISIS and other rebel groups opposed to U.S. interests.

According to Jenks, the United States has no idea whether these Syrians want to do America harm, but the federal government will be “bringing refugees to a town near you,” so you will “find out.”

And to make matters worse, Jenks said that the USCIS is now contracting with USIS, which sloppily did background checks on Edward Snowden and the Navy Yard gunman, to help screen immigrants.

Feds Tell Texas Schools Which Fundraiser Snacks Kids Can’t Eat

DALLAS, Texas — No more pickles, no more popcorn is what the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported as among snacks now considered contraband in the Lubbock Independent School District (ISD) for K-12 campus fundraisers held during school hours. Favorite kid munchies have been replaced by 45 approved federally authorized goodies. The changes were approved by Lubbock’s Board of Trustees and all comply with USDA policies.

Actually, the district didn’t have a choice. Lubbock ISD, like every school district in the state and the country that signed onto the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program for the 2014-15 school year, must comply to participate in this federal program that’s part of the USDA’s Community Eligibility Provision Program and the Healthy Hunger-Free Act of 2010, which set “limits on calories, fats, sugar and sodium” encouraging the “consumption of dairy, whole grains, protein, fruits and vegetables” and apply to “any school that participates in the National School Lunch Program,” according to Smart Snacks in School.

The National Food Lunch Program, championed by First Lady Michelle Obama, has been harshly criticized for its minute and tasteless meal portions and that’s resulted $4 million in trashed food and mandatory snacks each day.

In March 2014, the USDA issued a letter announcing enforcement guidelines effective as of July 1, 2014 that made it clear that the “USDA’s Office of the General Counsel has confirmed that USDA is prohibited by Federal law from waiving these regulations and is also prohibited from authorizing State agencies to do so.” So kids, say goodbye to favorite fundraiser sweet treats, replaced by government stamped smart snacks.

Lubbock ISD’s school superintendent Berhl Robertson ,Jr. verified that these federal regulations have to be incorporated in to local policies, according to the Avalanche-Journal. This affects all a la carte cafeteria sales, schools stores, snack bars, vending machines, and fundraisers.

Examples of new USDA smart snacks are fruits and vegetables (dried, freeze-dried, canned, fresh); whole-grain based chips; select whole-grain based snack bars; whole-grain crackers; and nuts and seeds. Beverages must be water, milk and almond milk substitute, 100% fruit juice, fruit juice diluted with water or carbonation, and flavored waters without added sweeteners. Smart Snacks in Schools lists criteria and examples of acceptable products that restrict caloric, sodium, sugar and fat content.

The Alliance Product Calculator for Smart Snacks is an online interactive tool to plug in snack data to check if it fits within USDA guidelines. In many states, there are loopholes, according to a Pew Charitable Trust Q&A. The standards apply to all foods sold before, during, or up to 30 minutes after the school day.

Most afterschool food fundraisers, especially during the elementary school years are PTA or similar Parent-Teacher organization driven and happen immediately when school lets out in the afternoon to capture the largest audience before buses and parents take children home. At the 30 minute mark, it’s pretty desolate on campus.

On the other hand, Pew says that these rules do not apply to evening or weekend activities such as football games or band concerts. Schools or districts could choose to apply the standards to all after-school activities, but that is not required by USDA.

They also explain that the rule covers “foods and beverages that are usually available to students: those in vending machines, snack bars, and school stores or sold a la carte. If parents, teachers, and students want some occasional departures from the standards, state and local leaders have the option of allowing that.

Also according to Pew, many schools make just as much money, if not more, with nonfood fundraisers. Examples of these kinds of fundraisers are gift wrapping paper sales or school spirit wear.

These rules apply to 100,000-plus US public schools that accept assistance from the National School Lunch Program.

According to the Texas Department of Agriculture, Big Education feeds more than 3 million Texas K-12 students and residential child care institutions. Currently, there are approximately 5.1 million students enrolled in Texas public schools.

Interestingly, the School Nutrition Association lists smart snacks state agency fundraising exemptions per state. Texas shows that it has no fundraiser exemption policy for its National School Lunch Program Participating campuses. Thus, zero fundraisers are listed as eligible to opt-out of the federal regulations in Texas.

Some states, like Georgia, are pushing back. In July, the Georgia State Board of Education (SBOE) chair Helen Rice and State School Superintendent John Barge issued a statement that read: “Tough economic times have translated into fewer resources, and these fundraisers allow our schools to raise a considerable amount of money for very worthwhile education programs.”

The two also jointly stated, “While we are concerned about the obesity epidemic, limiting food and beverage fundraisers at schools and school-related events is not the solution to solving it.”

Back in Lubbock ISD, school board president Dan Pope said he thought Founding Fathers such as Thomas Jefferson were probably spinning in their graves at the federal government’s actions, the Avalance-Journal noted.

The 35 district schools affected by the new smart snack policies are Alderson, Hardwick, Roberts, Bayless, Harwell, Rush, Bean, Stewart, Hodges, Bowie, Wester, Jackson, Brown, McWhorter, Wheelock, Centennial, Maedgen, Williams, Wolffarth, Dupre, Overton, Joan Y. Ervin, Parsons, Wright, Guadalupe and Ramirez Charter elementary schools; Atkins, Cavazos, Mackenzie, O.L. Slaton and Smylie Wilson middle schools; Estacado High School; Matthews Alternative High School; Priority Intervention Academy; and Dunbar College Preparatory Academy.

Other Texas school districts that participate in the National School Lunch Program include Allen, Birdsville, Carrollton-Farmers Branch, Dallas, Denton, Duncanville, Grand Prairie, Lewisville, Mesquite, Northwest, and Richardson. This year, Carroll ISD opted out.

New Yorker’s Lizza: Rand Paul Out for Revenge on Establishment

Ryan Lizza, Washington correspondent for The New Yorker, claimed that Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) is motivated in his fight against the GOP Establishment by a desire to get revenge for how members of the establishment treated his father on Monday’s broadcast of “The Hugh Hewitt Show.”

After Hewitt said, “You’ve got sort of his Hamlet-like revenge the father thing going here. And I’ve just never, ever thought of Rand Paul in that way,” Lizza expressed his disagreement with Hewitt’s analysis, he cautioned, “you’ve got to be careful about psychoanalyzing these guys,” but continued “you have to remember that he [Rand] was 11 years old when his life changed forever. His dad went from being a widely-respected, small town OBGYN…And then boom, he’s 11 years old in 1974, and his dad is running for Congress, and suddenly is being attacked as a political extremist. He loses that race, he comes back in ’76 in a wild year in politics where he wins election, goes to the convention in Kansas City as a Reagan delegate, and they watch as the Ford delegates pillory the Reagan delegates. Literally, at one point during that convention, the Ford family members throw garbage on the Texas delegates. So he’s growing up in the sort of cradle of the new right, right?” Lizza stated.

Lizza added, “He sees his dad, you know, the victim of the establishment through all of those races…So his whole education through decades is his dad saying one thing, and the Republican establishment saying no, you’re wrong, and you’re too crazy for our party. Fast forward to 2008, right? Same thing happens.”  He also claimed Rand’s intense loyalty to his father throughout the elder Paul’s political career was evidence for his claim.
